5.1.12. Greece

FLaReNet Summary

There is presently no dedicated program to HLT up and running right now in Greece. In the current configuration HLT is dispersed in a number of different action lines. Programmatically, it is expected to have a fairly sizeable cluster of projects under what could be translated as Content Technologies. This is still under preparation and therefore nothing has been officially announced yet. The last dedicated program was the recent "Sound, Image, Language" program, which supported several projects. For the feasibility study of CLARIN-EL, a list of organizations, groups, players with (some) activity in HLT in Greece is being worked out. Research activities are conducted in several laboratories, including the Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP) in Athens, the University of Patras and the University of Crete.
