Apart from HIAST (the Higher Institute for Applied Science and Technology), no other institutes or universities in Syria are working on Language Resources activity. Some efforts are now being done towards defining joint projects with regional countries.

Programs

HIAST participates in MEDAR 2009 and have some Language Resources, including speech corpora for semi-syllables-based Speech Synthesis, others are textual lexical corpora, The website of HIAST is http://www.hiast.edu.sy. HIAST is also working on other speech corpora and recording sentences with all syntactic forms in order to extract prosody in view of natural automatic prosody generation. These corpora are not registered yet (it may be available at LDC.

Apart HIAST, no other institutes or universities in Syria are working on such Language Resources activity. HIAST is responsible of NLP educational courses at HIAST, Damascus University and the Syrian Virtual University. HIAST lexical database is developed to build an interactive Arabic dictionary in cooperation with KASCT (Saudi Arabia) and will be soon available on their website.
