NECTEC develop several research programs on language and speech processing . NECTEC focuses on Three Flagships (Smart Health, Smart Farm and Digitize Thailand (including Digitizing Art and Culture). Now NECTEC also proposes Smart Services on top of those Flagships: Smart Services for Health care, Smart Services for Agriculture , Education and Tourism.

NECTEC applies Language Engineering and Knowledge Engineering in order to get better services. For example:

• Speech processing to provide better service for self-care to the DIABETES call center through Q&A system;
• Ontology processing for Tourism and Health care services;
• Language as a Service through Machine Translation.

It is a NECTEC Policy to work with universities, government sectors and also private sectors.

• NECTEC works with universities which are NECTEC alliances, and including Kasetsart University, in order to provide an Agriculture Knowledge portal through Ontology and Q&A system which focuses on Smart Services for Agriculture, Agro-Tourism and Education.

• Established in November 2002, the Thai Computational Linguistics Laboratory (TCL) is a partnership-laboratory of the Computational Linguistics Group (Japan), under Keihanna Human Info-Communication Research Center (KICR) of the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), which is located at Thailand Science Park in the building of NECTEC (http://tcllab.org).

• The Specialty Research Unit in Natural Language Processing and Intelligent Information System Technology (NAiST) was established in 1996 at the Department of Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of Kasetsart University in Bangkok (http://naist.cpe.ku.ac.th).
